Avenue A in Palestine reopened
PALESTINE, Jan, 30, 2012—Over three months after the roof collapsed on the historic Ivanhoe building in downtown Palestine, Avenue A was reopened to traffic on Friday.
According to Palestine Fire Chief Alan Wilcher, a portion of Oak Street between Avenue A and Houston Street in front of the Ivanhoe building will remain closed until the debris is completely cleared. This should be completed Monday or Tuesday.
The owner of the building will now decide if a new roof will be put on the remaining portion of the building or if the building will be completely demolished, according to Wilcher.
