Free Preservation seminar in Palestine on Tuesday
PALESTINE, Jan. 23, 2012--The Palestine Main Street and City of Palestine Development Services are co-hosting a free historic preservation seminar on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the historic Carnegie Library, 502 N. Queen.
Noted preservationist Matt Synatschk, State Coordinator for the Certified Local Government Program, a program of the Community Heritage Development Division of the Texas Historical Commission, will offer a two-hour seminar on historic preservation.
“I am looking forward to Matt’s presentation,” said Main Street Manager Laura Westgate. “Matt offers historical preservation in layman’s terms, and is so knowledgeable of the programs offered by the state.”
“Historic preservation is vital to Palestine’s success in the future! The social and economic impact of historic preservation can be easily tracked in the number of visitors who flock to Palestine each year.”
Historic preservation works to preserve a community’s past to create a strong future. There are many benefits to historic preservation to a community: increased community involvement and pride, stabilization of property values, strengthening of the local economy by “keeping it local”, and general esthetic value.
“Historic preservation is a strong focus for us as a city, whether it’s the buildings on Main Street or the lovely homes throughout our historic districts,” continued Ms. Westgate. “The Historic Landmark Commission works closely with home owners for the best methods to rehabilitate their historic home. And, the Main Street Board works closely with building owners. Without these two groups, many historic structures would be lost forever!”
The public is invited to attend this FREE seminar.
