TYLER, Jan. 14, 2012--The UT Tyler women’s basketball team won their second game of the new year and their third in-a-row by defeating Schreiner, 57-44, on Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center in American Southwest Conference action.
The Patriots now move to 7-4 on the season while improving to an even 4-4 in ASC play. Schreiner drops to 4-8 and 2-6 in league action.
UT Tyler rode the hot hand of senior guard Melissa Thomas who had 15 points, six rebounds, and one steal in 35 minutes. Overall, the Patriots shot 37.5-percent from the field while making 80-percent of their free throws. The Patriots also out-rebounded the Mountaineers, 39-37.
The Patriots jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading 32-16 at halftime behind strong defense and a steady offensive game plan.
She’Cara Humphrey added nine points, four rebounds, and one block. Nicole Tucker and Shamiya Domino also were big contributors, scoring nine and six points, respectively. Domino had five of the team’s eight steals on the night.
The Patriots return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m.
