TVCC to host spring concert
ATHENS, Feb. 24, 2012--Some of the most beautiful and respected works of music in history have one common theme: a higher power.
Next week, the students in the Trinity Valley Community College music program will be featuring a variety of religious selections during its spring concert.
The concert event, titled, We Sing of Praise, is scheduled for March 4 and will feature the TVCC Cardinal Singers and the TVCC Chamber Singers. TVCC Choir Director Dr. Byron McGilvray will conduct, and Kirk Overmoe will accompany the singers on piano.
There are just so many beautiful praise pieces, and we are looking forward to presenting some of our favorites,” said McGilvray.
The concert will feature selections from several different musical genres, from gospel to folk to traditional hymns. As with many of the college’s concerts, some of the pieces will be recognizable to the audience, while others will be lesser known pieces.
On tap for the concert is also a rendition of Franz Schubert’s “Mass in G Major.” The mass is one of the Austrian composer’s more famous works.
The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at Dogwood Church in Athens. As is the case with all the concerts presented by the music department, there is no charge for admission.
Dogwood Church is located at 6467 Farm-to-Market Road 2494 in Athens, three miles west of the college.
