TYLER, Feb. 22, 2012--The UT Tyler baseball team won its sixth game in a row on Tuesday evening, crushing Castleton State 14-4. The win moves the Patriots record to 7-1 on the young season.
The Spartans (0-3) scored the first two runs of the game, one in the first inning and one in the third inning, highlighted by Joe Borowski's RBI single.
UT Tyler was held without a hit until the third inning, until Aaron McCain got the inning started with a single to third base. McCain's hit opened up the flood gates on Spartans' starter Matt Ravey.
David Ring followed with a single, while Hayden Chick got a free pass to first base. Junior Issac Tijerina took advantage of the opportunity, knocking in two runs with a double to left-center field.
With the score tied 2-2, Steven Paramore sacrificed in Hayden Chick, making the score 3-2.
The Patriots added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI triple by David Ring and a RBI single by Jake Ashley.
With the score set at 9-3 in the seventh inning, UT Tyler added five more runs off of Castleton hurler Grant Davis. Davis threw three wild pitches and walked three batters in the inning, allowing the Patriots to go up 14-4 through seven innings.
UT Tyler finished with 12 hits, three byRing who also scored three times and knocked in two RBI.
Freshman Garrett Machacek picked up his first career win as a Patriot, going two innings with three strikeouts and one walked batter.
UT Tyler takes the field again on Friday at 6 pm against Concordia in the opener of a three-game series at Irwin Field in Tyler.
