PALESTINE, Jan. 20, 2012—The PROJECT CADEN Benefit held at the VFW on January 14 raised over $22,000 for the young boy and his family. Caden has been diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare disorder that attacks the brain. At this time, there is no known cure or specific treatment for Niemann-Pick.
Caden is currently awaiting an appointment with Dr. Patterson in Minnesota, who has worked with more Niemann-Pick patients in the U.S. than any other doctor. In the mean time, Caden and his family have traveled to the Houston, Dallas, and Tyler areas to seek financial help.
There were over 1,000 people that came to the benefit for Caden at the VFW throughout the day. The community came through and donated a total of over 200 silent auction items and 35 live auction items. Bobby Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Auction Service was the auctioneer and worked the crowd well, bringing in over $9,000 for the live auction.
Alex Smith and the Two Car Garage performed at the benefit and presented a signed tour t-shirt and CD.
Kathy Stokes of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation was present and gave the Bailey family a check for catastrophic assistance.
Although the PROJECT CADEN benefit is over, the fight has just began for continued assistance with this great family and their struggles with this terminal disease. There is an account set up for the Bailey's at Elkhart State Bank. Checks can be made to PROJECT CADEN and sent to:
Elkhart State Bank
PROJECT CADEN acct.
PO Box 427
Elkhart, TX 75839
There is also a Facebook page under Caden Bailey, where there are pictures and information about Caden’s progress and to leave a message.
The members of PROJECT CADEN and the family of Caden want to extend a thank you to all that came to the benefit and the community’s continued support.
Caden and his mother and father began their travels to Minnesota to the clinic Friday.
