I thought being back on the air after 30 years was a big deal in and of itself. But, when they told me I had my own web page, I thought, WOW, really? My own web page? This is bigger than having three zip codes. So, I guess I should begin by telling you something about myself, though I suspect most of you couldn’t care less about knowing anything about me! I started off in radio as a 16-year-old lad at KLIS under the name Bob Allen. I spent 8 years in broadcasting and earned a BFA degree in Radio/TV/Film from Sam Houston State University. Then I spent the best years of my life stuck in a small office at the family insurance agency. Thanks, Ann! Thanks, Alan! You could have come back and suffered, but NO, you made baby brother pick up the reins. Fortunately, I scammed my brother-in-law, John, into taking over those reins. Most times I see him, the reins are wrapped tightly around his neck and he shakes a fist at me as if to say, thanks, Bob!
Anyway, after a LONG absence from radio, I’m back and you’re all in trouble. This is going to be like a perpetual Festivus holiday. I have a lot of issues with each one of you and you’re going to hear about it on a daily basis. Actually, I love this area, some of the best folks you could ever hope to meet live here. We don’t just have citizens, we have characters and each one of them makes this journey unique. I hope to bring these characters to life in your radio. Yes, we’ll do the usual interviews with our local leaders and elected officials, and contrary to what you might believe, they do have a sense of humor and they do care about the jobs they do. But, in addition to the folks you already know, I hope we can highlight the characters you may not be familiar with. Our city, our county, are rich in history. We’re going to talk about our past and the people who came before us. We’re also going to talk about our government and how it begs for the involvement of its owners….that’s YOU, in case you have forgotten. But that’s why I’m here. My job is to make you WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!
